WE DID IT! Now Let’s ask City Council to Zone Hughes “Public Open Lands” on November 17th, 2020!

WE DID IT! THANK YOU, FORT COLLINS!

The task of undertaking a citizens initiative is not easy at any given time, and by any stretch of the imagination. But, with the tireless support of Fort Collins residents, and thousands of signatures from Fort Collins voters who overwhelmingly want to see Hughes conserved as open space, PATHS volunteers persevered through a pandemic, unpredictable weather, and ever-present hazardous smoke and ash pouring from the largest wildfires in Colorado’s history. Despite the elements and challenges we faced, we collected well over 8,000 signatures. With the total number of signatures exceeding 25% of the total number of voters in the last Fort Collins city election, we were able to reach the requisite threshold of 3,280 VALID voter signatures, to get the Hughes open space ballot measure on the April 2021 ballot.

IMPORTANTLY, WE HAVE A CHANCE TO ZONE HUGHES OPEN SPACE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH!
Our successful zoning petition will be presented to Council on November 17th, 2020, at which time Council can vote to adopt the zoning measure within 30 days, rather than waiting to put it on the ballot in April 2021. This is our best chance to give Hughes the proper zoning designation that honors its history and legacy as native tribal land, and later Maxwell family farmland, long before CSU took the helm just 50 years ago.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES AND DEMAND THAT THEY LISTEN TO THE MANDATE OF THE RESIDENTS OF FORT COLLINS, AND ZONE HUGHES OPEN SPACE IMMEDIATELY FOR OUR COMMUNITY NOW, FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS, AND FOR OUR WILDLIFE NEIGHBORS. THIS IS OUR BEST CHANCE!
