PLEASE TELL CITY COUNCIL NOW TO NOT EXPLOIT HUGHES OPEN SPACE AS A TOURIST RECREATION DESTINATION OR A HIGH-IMPACT BIKE SKILLS PARK.

Countless studies demonstrate that wildlife can be negatively impacted by recreation, resulting in higher mortality, avoidance of preferred habitat, and increased and unusual behavior that results in reduced reproductive and/or survival rates. If you care about our urban wildlife and conserved lands, PLEASE TELL CITY COUNCIL NOW TO NOT EXPLOIT HUGHES OPEN SPACE AS A TOURIST RECREATION DESTINATION OR A HIGH-IMPACT BIKE SKILLS PARK.

ICYMI, NoCo Wildlife Center, Oct 2020:

"We see maps of our own roadways often, but using the free GIS maps provided through the City of Fort Collins’ website can give us a look into the “roadways” wildlife use to move throughout Fort Collins.

Distinct habitat corridors can be seen along the foothills and Poudre River. While wildlife use other small creeks and green belts to move all throughout the city, these large connected corridors act as highways that really come in handy for wildlife; especially during migration season. These habitats help to ensure animals can find food, water, safety, and shelter as they coexist with us within our community. This is why we must fight for protecting the open space we have and adding more when we have the opportunity!"
